Dürr Dental, founded in 1941 by brothers Karl and Wilhelm Dürr in Stuttgart-Feuerbach, Germany, began as a precision mechanics workshop. Post-World War II, the company relocated to Ludwigsburg, producing household items and entering the compression technology field. In 1946, they ventured into dentistry by manufacturing replacement parts for handpieces, followed by developing water-cooled handpieces and angled instruments in 1947. The company was officially registered as K. u. W. Dürr Dental-Fabrikation in 1949.

Throughout its history, Dürr Dental has been at the forefront of dental innovation. In 1955, they introduced the first mobile suction pump, enhancing ergonomic practices for dentists. By 1965, they launched the first oil-free compressor for dental medicine, utilizing Teflon piston rings to eliminate the need for cylinder lubricants, paving the way for bonding technology preparations. The 1968 development of the Procomat, the first fully automated X-ray film developer, marked a significant advancement in dental diagnostics.

Today, Dürr Dental is headquartered in Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, employing around 500 people in production, research and development, sales, and marketing. Globally, the Dürr Dental Group has approximately 1,350 employees and, in 2024, achieved sales of approximately €374 million, serving customers in 174 countries. The company’s extensive product portfolio includes practice supply systems, suction systems, diagnostic equipment, dental care products, and hygiene solutions.
